I believe in touch above all—touch that must be offered to the land just as it is offered to each other—and employ performance, poetry, video, and photography to hold the sincerity and tenderness my touch requires. This is an embodied practice, informed by deep research and an understanding of Generative Somatics, Reproductive Justice, and Racial Capitalism. I am invested in the abolition of all systems of oppression, and consider all my work as radical propaganda. I pull from the deep solace and safety the forest provided for me as a child, a place no one could take from me or my heart. My work ranges from that deeply personal space, taking portraits of those I am enamored with; taking portraits of plants I have danced with; taking self-portraits in the places I used to belong; in a poem, chronicling some fucked-up sex I’ve had—to how violent systems effect all of us. I believe political education and facilitation is a crucial tool in this effort, and I use popular education to lead workshops on pregnancy options, Black freedom songs, and the political power of intimate, vernacular photography. Creating artwork is critical to my own healing, and determines my role within any liberatory movement.
